RNLI volunteers from Porthdinllaen have returned to station after being requested to resume searching for a 68-year-old woman, reported missing to North Wales Police.
The Porthdinllaen all-weather lifeboat was launched at 1.20pm yesterday afternoon (8 February) to commence a search of a specific location close to Trefor Point.
RNLI Coxswain Mike Davies says:
‘We began by carrying out a local search and then commenced our pattern along the coast from Trefor back to Porthdinllaen. Search conditions are still good, but the wind was slowly picking up when we returned to station just after 3.30pm this afternoon. We were searching alongside North Wales Police and Coastguards.’
The Porthdinllaen RNLI lifeboat was launched twice on Saturday (6 February) to assist in the search. The first call-out came at 12.45am in the early hours of Saturday morning. The volunteer RNLI crew searched for three miles towards Caernarfon but the lifeboat was stood down at 3.30am. Nine hours later, Holyhead Coastguard requested the Porthdinllaen RNLI lifeboat launch again to continue searching for the woman, believed to be from Buckley in Flintshire.
At 12.30pm on Saturday afternoon, the RNLI all-weather lifeboat and the station’s boarding boat carried out a saturated search along with a Sea King helicopter from RAF Valley. The Porthdinllaen RNLI lifeboat was stood down by Holyhead Coastguard and returned to station at 4.15pm.
