Denbighshire is on the right tracks

Denbighshire’s Leader, Councillor Hugh Evans told members at the meeting of the Full Council today (Tuesday) that Denbighshire is now well placed to look to the future with aspiration and ambition following a positive report from the Wales Audit Office.

The Audit Office produces an annual letter for each authority in Wales, which looks back over the previous year (08/09) and looks at how councils have performed in that time.

Following reviews of services and corporate arrangements, the report for Denbighshire states that the Council has achieved or exceeded the majority of targets set out in agreed improvement plans over the last 12 months.

It states: “Education is now clearly a high-level priority for the Council…Senior political and officer leadership is now effective.. although there are still some challenges to be overcome.”

Coun Evans said: “This is the beginning of a new era for Denbighshire.

“It has been a difficult and challenging jopurney but here today – and I quote the auditor’s findings – ‘There is no need for this year’s audit to make any further recommendations for improvements’.”

“Because of the journey we’ve been on for the last two years, we are a lot stronger now to meet the challenges of the year ahead and we will continue with our aim of becoming a high performing council by 2012.”
