What’s on in RCT in March

There’s a feast of entertainment on offer at Rhondda Cynon Taf Cultural Services’ venues next month, with every entertainment genre covered.

From dance with the highly acclaimed National Dance Company of Wales to comedy from up-and-coming comedian Tony Law at the Park & Dare, Treorchy, there’s something to suit all tastes.

Music comes from the Steve Howe Trio, Scottish firebrands Breabach and young indie punks Zebrahead at The Muni Arts Centre. The ultimate Queen tribute band The Bohemians are at The Coliseum and The Blues Band are at The Park & Dare. If you’re looking for a drama the National Theatre Of Wales present their brand new laugh-out-loud comedy drama A Good Night Out In The Valleys at The Coliseum and there’s High School Rocks at The Park & Dare for the kids.

Here are some of March’s highlights:

CHRIS CORCORAN’S COMMITTEE MEETING will be held on Monday, March 1 at 6pm at The Muni Arts Centre. Following the sell-out success of the two Christmas Committee Meetings, Chris is back with a St David’s Day Agenda. Helping Chris celebrate our national day is Greg Davies, star of C4’s The Inbetweeners. This event is for over 16s only and tickets are £10.50.

PHANTOM & THE MUSICALS is on Saturday, March 6 at 7.30pm at The Muni Arts Centre. All the latest and greatest from London’s West End and Broadway are included in this glitzy show which has classic songs from West Side Story, Calamity Jane, Chicago, Evita, Grease and Mamma Mia. Tickets cost £14.00.

COMEDY IN THE LAUGHTER LOUNGE – TONY LAW, Thursday, March 11 at 8.00pm at The Park & Dare Theatre.

The Laughter Lounge will host some of the biggest and brightest rising comedians on the circuit and this month it’s Tony Law. Expect bizarre ramblings with an international slant from this award-winning comedian. This event is strictly over-18s only as it contains adult material and tickets cost £8.00.

THE STEVE HOWE TRIO – Saturday, March 13 at 8.00pm at The Muni Arts Centre. For nearly 40 years, Steve Howe has been at the forefront of rock music as a model and inspiration for other guitarists and musicians, perhaps best-known as a member of the prog rock group Yes. Steve’s new trio project features his son Dylan on drums and keyboard maestro Ross Stanley on Hammond organ. Tickets cost £15.00 in advance, £17.50 on the door.

PLUNGE – Tuesday, March 16 at 7.30pm at The Coliseum Theatre, Aberdare. Two wonderful productions performed by six of the best young professional dancers working with National Dance Company Wales. Tickets cost £5.00.

WE’LL MEET AGAIN – Wednesday, March 17 at 2.00pm at The Coliseum Theatre. Relive the spirit of the Forties in this nostalgic afternoon performance of singalong songs from the War years. With hits from the blitz era including Vera Lynn, Gracie Fields and George Formby as well as sampling some of the famous comedians of the era like Max Miller and Tessie O’Shea, you’ll share the music and laughter that kept Britain smiling through her darkest days. Tickets cost £12.00 and concessions £10.00.

THE BOHEMIANS – Saturday, March 20 at 7.30pm at The Coliseum Theatre. This is the ultimate Queen tribute show, endorsed by the Official Queen Fan Club. Tickets are £15.00 with concessions £12.50

ZEBRAHEAD – Monday, March 22 at 7.30pm at The Muni Arts Centre. This Californian furious five-some have supported Green Day and Reel Big Fish. This gig is for ages 14 and over, tickets cost £10.00 in advance, £12.50 on the door.

A GOOD NIGHT OUT IN THE VALLEYS – Friday & Saturday, March 26 and 27 7.30pm at The Coliseum Theatre. What’s the most extraordinary Valleys story of all? After listening to hundreds, we transform the best into a beautiful, outrageous night of theatre starring Boyd Clack, Sharon Morgan, Oliver Wood, Amy Starling, Huw Rhys and Siwan Morris. Tickets cost £10.00 & £8.00.

THE BLUES BAND – Saturday, March 27 at 8.00pm at The Park & Dare Theatre. Arguably the most successful Blues Band in Britain today, Paul Jones, Dave Kelly, Rob Townsend, Gary Fletcher and Tom McGuinness are great showmen who continue to delight audiences with their extensive mix of Rhythm & Blues and Roots music. Tickets cost £17.50

HIGH SCHOOL ROCKS – Tuesday, March 30 at 2.00pm & 5.30pm at The Park & Dare Theatre. A high-energy production featuring all the best hits from High School Musical 1, 2 & 3; Hannah Montana and Camp Rocks. Tickets cost £12.00, concessions £10.00 and a family ticket is £40.00.
