Cardiff Wales Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Mardi Gras returns to Cardiff over the August bank holiday weekend (29th and 30th August) with Wales’ biggest ever celebration of diversity.
The festival takes place in Coopers Field; behind Cardiff’s iconic Castle; and is returning for its 10th anniversary after a year off.
Entertainment sees some top acts from across the UK taking to the Admiral Main Stage including Blazin’ Squad, Mark Read formerly from A1 and Gareth David-Lloyd’s (BBC1’s Torchwood) band Blue Gillespie.
There is a myriad of support acts including Boogaloo Stu who brings his London and Brighton DJ and cabaret acts to the field; local singing talent David Longden, upcoming UK star Laura Steel and former Anastacia support Nicolette Street.
Further headline acts will shortly be announced through Cardiff Mardi Gras’ partnership with local hit music station Red Dragon FM.
The Dance tent will see the best of UK Dance music with a special Dance Anthems set from Red Dragon FM, following on from the tent being opened by Boogaloo Stu with his unique Pop DJ set which led The Times to refer to him as ‘the best Pop DJ around’.
The Cabaret stage will add to the weekend with performances including local and national drag entertainers, solo artists and some of the best local musical talent.
Alongside being a great day out and a lot of fun; Cardiff Wales LGBT Mardi Gras is a key element in a strategy that seeks to reduce hate crime and promote diversity; and in line with this events over Mardi Gras weekend are open to all, free of charge.
Carl Turner, Chair of the volunteer organising committee for Mardi Gras says:
“We are hoping that a record number of people will join with us and celebrate the diverse communities in which we all live and work; during what is set to be two great days in August.
“Amongst the patrons of this year’s Mardi Gras is Charlotte Church who adds ‘‘I am truly excited to carry on being a patron of Mardi Gras. The event is fun, upbeat and really brings people together to celebrate diversity and this year will be no exception”
