AM Angela Burns is seeking reassurance that that the new Llandowror by-pass won’t make the village’s flooding problems any worse.
The busy A477 St Clears to Red Roses road is due to be improved and the new route crosses the flood plain before skirting the edge of the village on higher ground.
Llandowror has suffered two major floods in the past year and many residents believe that the LNG pipeline laid nearby has added to the problem.
“What I am concerned about is that the new road is being built above the village and will effectively create a trap for the flood water in the village itself,” said Mrs Burns.
“Everyone agrees that Llandowror is suffering from much worse flooding than it used to, what is not clear is why.
“I would hate for any engineering works in the area to create any more problems.”
Mrs Burns has now tabled a written question to Welsh Transport Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones asking him what consideration has been given to flooding risk in relation to the road improvements.
