Officers from Swansea Council have held talks with Swansea Tennis Centre users about the future of the attraction.
The Council will keep the centre open for a period that’s sufficiently long enough for people to come forward with business plans for the facility.
Officers have already met with users of the tennis centre to discuss their business plan for the site and have also met with the Lawn Tennis Association and Tennis Wales to talk about continuing to offer high-quality tennis provision in Swansea.
Full Council backed the closure of Swansea Tennis Centre last month in a bid to save over £2million in the next ten years.
Cllr Graham Thomas, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: “The decision to close Swansea Tennis Centre wasn’t easy but these are tough economic times when we face a funding gap of £17million because of a difficult settlement from the Welsh Assembly Government
“This means we have to focus the funds we have on vital front-line services.
“We are, however, keen on listening to viable proposals people may have for the continued operation of Swansea Tennis Centre so long as there are no cost implications for Swansea Council. This is why we’ve already met with users of the centre and will continue to listen.
“The centre will stay open for a length of time that’s sufficient enough to give people a chance to develop business plans for its continued operation that we will then consider.”
