Vicky celebrates being a big loser!

All of the staff at Penarth Leisure Centre would like to congratulate local mum-of-two Vicky Dimond for being crowned one of ‘The Biggest Losers’ in a Real Radio weight loss challenge.

Over the last five weeks, Vicky has been training at the leisure centre and living healthily as part of a contest led by two of the radio station’s DJ’s, Angela Jay and Dave Brookes.

Vicky and three other listeners joined forces with breakfast show host Angela to form a team which went head-to-head with Drive Time host Dave’s group of slimmers.

The final weigh-in on Thursday revealed that Vicky’s ‘Team Breakfast’ lost the most combined weight, earning each listener a £200 prize and a celebratory night out.

Vicky, who works as a care assistant in Penarth, was inspired to take up the challenge by her late grandfather Bernard, who passed away in 2008. Vicky explained: “Even up to his 80th birthday my Grandfather was very active and went running. Before he died he encouraged me to give up smoking and be more healthy, so I am going to run the Cardiff Half Marathon this October in his memory. I’ll also be raising money for Marie Curie as they helped him so much.”

Vicky added: “My family have been behind me 100% during the Real Radio challenge. My husband has been an absolute rock and even joined in with my diet. I’m really looking forward to having more energy to run around with my two children.”

Vicky lost 15.5 lbs over the five weeks, while her team lost a total of 89.5 lbs (6 stone, 5.5 lbs). Delighted with the support she received from Penarth Leisure Centre to help her achieve her weight loss success, Vicky said: “All of the staff at the leisure centre have been absolutely fantastic, particularly LifeStyle gym instructor Amy Phillips. I’ve been training here at least four times a week, either in the gym or in the pool, and will carry on training here as well. We are all being weighed again in a month to see how we are doing, and I’m aiming to keep up the momentum and continue to lose weight and get fitter.”
