Roads surfaces in Swansea will be improved under new plans announced by Swansea Council.
Special teams working as part of a new road repair initiative called PATCH – Priority Action for Community Highways, will be responsible for carrying out road repairs.
The PATCH teams will be sent into communities in Swansea on a rota basis from April this year and will cover the entire city. The teams will spend two weeks in each community, targeting specific roads which are most in need of repairs.
The new road repair initiative will compliment the Councils Highway Asset Management plan which has been produced and is set to be approved at Cabinet on Thursday 10 March.
The latest plan will set out how and which roads in Swansea will be improved over the next five years.
John Hague, Cabinet Member for the Environment in Swansea Council, said, “Both the new PATCH initiative and the Highway Asset Management plan will give us the opportunity to focus our efforts on the real priorities in Swansea in terms of highway maintenance.
“When we were developing the five year programme we asked for input from residents, giving them the opportunity to tell us which roads concerned them. This new plan has taken those concerns into consideration.”
The Highway Asset Management Plan will seek to maintain some of the 1100 km of carriageway and 1500 km of footway in the city. The Council stated that when the consultation took place with residents, many highlighted pavements that they wanted improved.
Cllr Hague added, “The new plan is very much focussed on addressing residents concerns and the improvement of pavements in communities.”
