City centre underpass closed for repairs

Repairs are being carried out to a pedestrian underpass in Swansea city centre.

The underpass which stretches between Wind Street and Somerset Place will be closed temporarily while work is completed.

The repairs follow on from work carried out in November last year to remove loose concrete that was discovered in the ceiling of the underpass during a routine inspection.

Carl Humphrey, Head of Highways in Swansea Council said, “During a routine inspection of the walkway we discovered some loose concrete which was at risk of coming away from the internal structure.

“Closing the underpass for a few days will enable us to carry out the repairs quickly without putting pedestrians in any danger.

“Alternative safe crossing points are at Quay Parade (opposite Sainsburys) or the junction of Victoria Road and Princess Way. Hopefully we can reopen the underpass by the weekend.”
