The history of Barry’s last cinema, the Theatre Royal, is covered in an exhibition of memorabilia, photographs, posters and pictures at ‘The Room in the Park.’
Put together by local resident John Moore, the “From Chaplin to Bond . . . and beyond” exhibition at the Victoria Park venue will run from 1-17 April. Entry is free, and the exhibition will be open daily from 10am until 4pm (closed between 1-2pm on weekends).
The exhibition covers the building’s 100-year history through the age of silent movies to the all-action blockbusters of the 21st Century, and includes extracts from old newspapers and prints from old newsreels. Park manager John Greatrex said: “It really will be a must see for everyone with fond memories of the ‘Royal’ and film buffs of all ages.”
Does the building have some ghosts? John added: “Come and look at some strange effects on some of the last pictures from the hidden parts of the old theatre and decide for yourself.”

For details of forthcoming events in the park, which has been transformed thanks to a major restoration programme undertaken by the Vale of Glamorgan Council and funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, look out for posters in the area and on park notice boards.
