The annual historic Neath Fair will roll into town next week. (Wednesday 9th – Saturday 12th September)
Now in its 729th year and presented by the South Wales Section of the Showmen’s Guild, the traditional charter fair boasts some of the most modern and hi- tech rides in the UK.
The funfair will be supported by an array of street traders attracting bumper crowds again this year.
A wide range of products and foods, with something to suit all tastes, will be on offer, bringing a continental flavour to the streets of Neath.
The funfair opens on the Milland Road car park on Tuesday (8th), the street fair opens from Wednesday (9th) and both run until Saturday (12th)
County Borough Mayor, Pam Thomas, will officially open the fair on Wednesday (9th) and will accompany children from special needs schools around the rides at the fair on Friday (11th).
Council leader, Ali Thomas, said, “Traditions are important to the county borough and the annual fair marks a long standing link with the past.
“Neath Fair is a much loved event in the social calendar of the county borough and is enjoyed by thousands of visitors to Neath.
“The fair not only brings a unique atmosphere to Neath but a boost to the local economy as well.”
The historic horse fair will be held again in the cattle market at the Green on Thursday (10th). The council is advising people to travel on foot to this event as there is no parking on site. Marshals will be on hand to give advice and minimise disruption.
Traders are also being advised that only horses with full passport identification will be permitted to trade at the sale.
