Tourism operators in Pembrokeshire are gearing up for the coming holiday season.
More than 70 operators attended an event last week aimed at promoting the County to visitors.
Promoting Pembrokeshire is jointly organised by Pembrokeshire County Council and Pembrokeshire Tourism (the County’s tourism association) and supported by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority and Cadw.
Held twice a year, it aims to inform tourism businesses about new activities and attractions in the County so that visitors will be inspired to make return visits.
It also allows the main agencies to update the trade on how they are promoting and marketing Pembrokeshire to the rest of the UK, as well as reflecting the desire of tourism organisations to work together more efficiently.
The event, which was held at Folly Farm on March 19th, took the form of workshops put on by the County Council’s Tourism and Food Teams, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, Cadw and Gallu (the regional tourism training body), which enabled people to choose the subjects of particular interest to them.
The event was one of hundreds of events put on for British Tourism Week, which highlights the importance of tourism to the national economy.
Councillor Rob Lewis, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism said tourism was a vital element of Pembrokeshire‘s economy.
“Although many people know and appreciate the beauty of our County and the attractions on offer, there is always more that we can do to bring them back and attract new visitors,” he said.
“Events like these are vital if we are to keep each other informed of all that our County has to offer.”
Alison Belton, Chief Executive of Pembrokeshire Tourism, said enthusiasm from the trade for such events was inspiring.
“We have the benefit of a spectacular National Trail within Pembrokeshire, which attracts thousands upon thousands to the County every year,” she said.
“With walking and the coastline as key destination drivers, it’s essential that the trade is kept up to date with information on the coastal path and inland walking networks.”
