Deganwy was the venue for an ordination service on Sunday 21 March. The Revd Pam Wright was ordained priest by the Bishop of St Asaph, the Rt Revd Dr Gregory Cameron.
“A beautiful day in a beautiful church on a beautiful occasion!” said the Bishop to a full church. The Bishop was joined by clergy from the Rectorial Benefice of Rhos-Cystennin, where Pam serves, together with other visiting clergy, family and friends. Pam’s husband, Jeff, played the organ.
Mrs Wright (64) has served as deacon in the parish since 2002. She has had pastoral responsibility for All Saints, Deganwy, which is now part of the new team ministry of Rhos-Cystennin. As she looked forward to her new ministry as a priest, she said, “I now look forward with excitement to the challenges that God has for us in our new Benefice and my prayer is simply that I might be a channel fit for His use wherever and however He wishes to use me.”
In the ordination service, Bishop Gregory spoke of the responsibility of all Christians to share in ministry. He said that the church asked a great deal of its priests and, in turn, they relied on the help and support of everyone in the congregations. “Pam has been called to serve God in a particular way but all of us are called to serve in many and various ways,” he said. The Bishop reminded the congregation that there were two great commandments given to all Christians – “Come” (come close to God) and “Go” (go out to share God’s love with others).
The service ended as the bells of the church rang out in celebration. After the service the congregation were invited to share in the hospitality of the church over a cup of tea and cake served in the Sea Cadet Rooms, next door to All Saints’ Church.
