Edinburgh maintained their push for a Magners League play-off play place with a mixed performance against the Scarlets at Murrayfield.
At times the home side looked a class apart but on other occasions they looked rather ordinary with basic errors hampering their progress. Tries from No8 Roddy Grant and winger Tim Visser, ensured Edinburgh cliamed their fourth successive win at Murrayfield in all competitions.
The Scarlets are also in a race of their own, but not for an automatic play-off play for the end of season knock-out stages. With only three Welsh regions guaranteed a coveted place in next year’s Heineken Cup, the Scarlets, Dragons and the Blues appear to be chasing two spots as the Ospreys are currently in pole position for one of the slots.
Every point is vital so the Scarlets would be happy coming away with losing bonus point.
The Scarlets began brightly, forcing a five-metre line-out followed by a scrum. Grant was penalised at a ruck and Rhys Priestland slotted the penalty in the fourth minute.
Phil Godman struck back twice to kick a two simple penalties before Edinburgh scored the first try of the match in the 27th minute via Grant.
The Scarlets hit back through prop Phil John after good lead up work by Priestland and David Lyons.
Leading 13-10 at the break, Edinburgh’s restart brought an immediate try through Tim Visser, the leading try scorer in the Magners League this season.
A drop goal from Godman on 60 minutes seemed to have eased Edinburgh away but a try from Fenby, converted by Dan Newton, narrowed the home lead to 24-20 and a nervous last 10 minutes ensued.
