Technology masterclass teaches teachers

Teachers from across North Wales took part in a three day training event last week aimed at helping them to explore computer technology that can support teaching and learning.

The event, at Optic Technium, St Asaph, was an opportunity for nearly 30 teachers to build on the recently announced One Wales Laptop Initiative, where pupils are able to access learning materials and produce their work online thanks to the use of free laptops from their schools.

Organised by the North Wales e-learning group (Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham) the event was run by staff from Yale College, Wrexham, Deeside College and Coleg Llandrillo with ICT staff from Wrexham, Denbighshire, Anglesey and Gwynedd.

North Wales has been leading the way in producing fully bilingual resources to share across the region and enable learners to access more choice of courses through the 14-19 Networks.

Cabinet Lead Member for Education, Councillor Eryl Williams, said: “This was an excellent opportunity for our teachers to meet with colleagues from across North Wales over three days to fully explore the possibilities and potential of e-learning for our young people.”
