Carmarthenshire County Council’s executive board will consider bringing in bye-laws to regulate tattoo parlours and similar premises.
A report will go to the next meeting of the executive board with a recommendation to adopt bye-laws to regulate people carrying on businesses of acupuncture, tattooing, cosmetic piercing semi permanent skin colouring and electrolysis. The bye-laws are intended to improve confidence amongst customers using the services.
Head of public protection Philip Davies said: “A registration scheme will be a key part of the process, requiring business operators and premises used for cosmetic piercing and skin colouring to register with the council.
“They will have to comply with the bye-laws, which provide public health and protection measures relating to the cleanliness and hygiene of premises, equipment, practices and practitioners.”
The measures are intended to increase public health and protection and reduce the risk of transmission of blood borne viral infections such as HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C.
The bye-laws need to be made by full Council. They must then be submitted to the Welsh Assembly Government for confirmation.
