An exhibition by the artist Helen Lopez will be held at Oriel Ynys Môn, Llangefni between April 2 and May 23, 2010.
Helen Lopez is an artist and a poet who is inspired by the local landscape. Born in London, she was educated at Liverpool John Moores University and Chelsea School of Art London. She has exhibited in many solo and group exhibitions.
She now lives and works on Anglesey and has exhibited her work in many parts of the world.
Her first collection of poems which is published by Shearsman Books is an integral part of this exhibition.
The influence for the work in this exhibition stems out of a relationship with the work of Kurt Schwitters during Helen’s early development as an artist and most recently that of Carlo Carra and in particular the piece entitled ‘Interventionist Demonstration’ which can be seen in Venice at the Peggy Guggenheim Gallery.
“The intention has been to make images that include poems. The collages in this exhibition are made from found texts that have become redundant through the passage of time and replaced. These artworks are all about choice, renewal, transience, permanence, and environment”, said Helen.
The artworks have a low or almost zero carbon footprint – the materials used have been found or have come to the artist. Having been to Canada to kick start this project, Helen was keen to produce artwork that would offset all her travelling. This work is all about choice, renewal, transience, permanence, and environment.
The artist received funding from the Arts Council of Wales to carry out this project.
