Shadow Equalities Minister Mohammad Asghar AM has raised concerns over traffic diversions from the M4 Motorway near Newport.
The M4 is currently closed between junction 23A and 26 between 8pm and 6am. During this time, traffic is diverted along the A48.
Mr Asghar, Regional Assembly Member for South Wales East, said: “Residents in the area have put forward complaints about the noise and vibrations the diversions are causing.
“I have written to Ieuan Wyn Jones, Deputy First Minister and Minister for Economy and Transport, to get an update on the situation as many people living near the diversion feel they have not been given sufficient information on the works.
“These diversions are also causing disruption to those travelling at night or commuting to work early in the morning. It will be a relief to many when this 10-hour daily diversion is no longer in place.
“Of course, it is crucial that necessary motorway alterations are carried out properly to ensure the future safety of our highways. However, the disruption that the roadworks and diversions have caused to both motorists and residents is causing concern.
“It is pivotal that due consideration is given to residents when such diversions are put in place.”
