Commenting on the roll out of a national uniform for nurses in Wales, Shadow Health Minister, Andrew RT Davies AM said:
“The Assembly Government launched this proposal in October 2007, relaunched it in June 2008, and again in May 2009 and we welcome the fact this proposal has finally seen the light of day.
“These new uniforms will make it easier for patients to recognise different members of nursing staff and will offer clarity when it comes to nurses’ roles and responsibilities.
“However, simply providing new uniforms to nurses is not enough to tackle hospital infections and nurses need to be given more control over their own hospital ward environment.
“It is also incumbent on the Minister to ensure that showering and changing facilities for nursing staff are fit for purpose so they can minimise the risks to patients’ health by not wearing their uniforms home.”
