Commenting on the Assembly Government’s decision to announce £17.5m worth of tourism grants this morning, Leader of the Opposition, Nick Bourne AM said:
“This is a cynical ploy by the Labour-Plaid administration to try and influence voters ahead of the election.
“We are not disputing that the Assembly Government has to continue with run of the mill day-to-day spending, for keeping our hospitals open for example.
“However what we are talking about in this case is a constituency or region specific spending announcement and this is simply unacceptable.
“It is unfair and a shameful abuse of power by Labour and Plaid and I have written today to the Permanent Secretary to seek clarification on the matter.”
Shadow Heritage Minister Alun Cairns AM added:
“We are used to the Labour Government misusing their position and trying to manage the media but I am disappointed and aghast that Plaid has stooped to their level.
“This cynical move in the height of the election campaign shows just how close the two parties are.
“This just shows the people of Wales that a vote for Plaid is effectively a vote for Labour and vice versa and this announcement has shown both parties for what they really are.”
