The man, who died in the road traffic collision at Ewloe yesterday, Sunday 11 April, has been named as Seamus Newell.
Seamus Newell was 72 and lived near his two daughters and grandchildren in Connah’s Quay.
Originally from Ballymartin in Northern Ireland, he moved to the Flintshire area in 1956, working primarily as a rigger for British Steel.
He was well known in the area as a talented footballer and also for playing his accordion in various pubs and clubs. In later years he ran Newells stores on Shotton Lane in Shotton, alongside his wife Gwenda, who tragically died of cancer in 2003.
He leaves behind his daughters Margaret and Sandra, son-in-laws Colin and Kevin, along with his five grandchildren, brothers and sisters and extensive family across North Wales, Northern Ireland and England.
A requiem mass will be held at the Church of Blessed Sacrament at 10am on Thursday 22nd April 2010.
Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen an elderly man, wearing glasses and a flat cap who was either riding or pushing a pedal cycle at around 3pm yesterday on the A55 or the A494, to contact PC 450 Aled Jackson at the Eastern Roads Policing Unit on 101 or 0845 6071001 (Welsh line), 0845 6071002 (English line).
