Plaid Cymru AM Chris Franks has asked Deputy First Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones to put pressure on the rail companies to ensure fans can get home after the Wales-England rugby international.
Chris Franks, who represents South Wales Central, which includes Cardiff, said: “It is 10 months’ before the Six Nations international but already Arriva Trains Wales (ATW) are complaining about the Friday, February 4th, evening kick-off.
“It beggars belief that here we are in the second decade of the 21st Century and rail companies are complaining about offering limited travel options for fans after the big game. Surely with so much time to go before the international both Arriva Trains Wales and First Great Western can get their act together.”
Chris Franks added: “I have written to Ieuan Wyn Jones as Transport Minister to put pressure on the railway companies – particularly ATW – which has been the beneficiaries of significant investment in the railways within Wales.
“We need a rail service that is meeting the needs of the travelling public even though the finishing time of the game may be difficult for rail companies. They need to start developing their timetable now.”
