William Graham (Conservative AM for South Wales East) responding to the news of the £7.7m acquisition of the Queensway road from Corus is part of the Assembly Government’s alternative to the too costly M4 relief road.
“I acknowledge this agreement to purchase Queensway will enhance the transport links to the Corus Llanwern site; and allow Llanwern to retain an important role within the South Wales steel industry”.
“However, I share the same reservations as David Rosser (Director of the CBI Wales) when he explains that no one knows – including the Assembly Government – if this is going to be an adequate solution to traffic congestion along the M4”.
“The M4 will always be a vital economic artery through South Wales; and the necessity to keep the ‘life blood of economic development and investment flowing into Wales’ will inevitably lead to future considerations of an M4 Relief Road”.
