A fourth housing association has joined the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s ground-breaking Homes4U scheme.
Since its launch in June 2003, when the Vale became the first local authority in Wales to advertise all its empty homes in local newspapers, Homes4U has evolved into a multi-landlord partnership, with new recruits, United Welsh, joining the Newydd, Hafod and Wales and West housing associations.
All the associations’ vacant properties are advertised fortnightly alongside vacant council homes. People who register their housing need only have to complete one application form to bid for any homes advertised under the Homes4U banner.
Vale Council cabinet member for housing and community safety Councillor Paul Church said: “The Vale of Glamorgan continues to establish itself as a centre for innovation and improvement and, over the last six years, Homes4U has provided an improved performance for our partners and a greater choice for applicants.
“The partnership agreement between ourselves and United Welsh is a further step towards providing a comprehensive access to housing and housing advice service to tenants of the council and its housing association partners. One of the great advantages of this partnership is that residents have one point of contact for housing allocation enquiries rather than the myriad of forms that previously existed.
“Homes4U continues to improve and the addition of United Welsh will strengthen already excellent working relationships.”
