Denbighshire County Council says a fine imposed on a building supplies company for failing to comply with health and safety at work sends out a clear message to all employers in the county.
The Council took court action against Thorncliffe Building Supplies of Dyserth who pleaded guilty to five offences at a hearing at Prestatyn Magistrates Court today (Tuesday). Three offences related to defects on a lorry loading crane, one for failure to comply with an improvement notice and one for having bald tyres on a fork lift truck.
The company was fined £10,000 and ordered to pay the Council’s costs of £6,696.
Emlyn Jones, Health and Safety Manager for Denbighshire County Council, said: “The fine imposed on the company today sends out a clear message that health and safety of employees and members of the public must be a priority for every employer in the county and that the courts take these kind of offences very seriously.
“Most employers do protect the health and safety of their employees. However, the council will not hesitate in taking action against any employer that contravenes strict health and safety laws.”
