Four pupils from Pembrokeshire will be representing the County at a major children’s book award ceremony.
Jordan James and George Higgins-Washbrook from Ysgol Bro Gwaun in Fishguard and Emily Williams and Ben Watson from Johnston Primary School will be taking part in the Red House Children’s Book Award ceremony in Birmingham next month.
The Red House Children’s Book Award is unique in that the winners are chosen solely by youngsters and thousands of children from across the UK, including Pembrokeshire, will be taking part in the vote.
The Pembrokeshire four were chosen to represent their County because of the large number of books they have read.
Jordan James read 31 novels between last October and this February while his Year Seven compatriot George Higgins-Washbrook read 26 novels. Pupils from Johnston recorded the largest return of votes.
Following the children’s vote, the award organisers compile a top ten list of children’s books – four picture books, three books for younger children and three for older readers.
The award ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 22 at the Botanical Gardens in Birmingham, where the children will take part in presentations and have lunch with the shortlisted authors and illustrators.
