Never too late to get back in the saddle

Free cycle training courses are being offered by Cardiff Council in an effort to help adults get safely back in the saddle.

Aimed at either former cyclists intending to get riding again or those looking to build their confidence when cycling on the road, the free adult classes are available from next month at the Road Safety Centre in Maindy.

The one-day course gives adults the chance to develop more cycling skills and is ideal for those who have not ridden for some time but are keen to commute by bike, or to cycle with their children.

The morning session will be spent learning important road-craft and theories including practical riding skills, knowledge of the Highway Code and basic cycle checks. The afternoon session, depending on cycling ability, will include time on the Taff Trail and a variety of on-road routes.

The courses will run on occasional weekends from May to August from 10am to 4pm, beginning on Saturday May 8. Participants will be required to bring a roadworthy bicycle that is suitable for their own size.

The course is free but a booking fee of £5 (refundable on the day) is required from all trainees.

For further information concerning the courses, please contact Germaine Walsh at the Road Safety Centre on 029 20788527 or email: [email protected]

The course dates are: Saturday May 8, Sunday June 20, Saturday July 3 and Sunday August 22.
