To mark the start of Tidy Wales week tomorrow, volunteers in Splott, Cardiff got together today to clean up the local area.
They concentrated on:
- Litter picking
- Graffiti removal
- Clearing fly tipping
- Clearing vegetation
In total they removed three and a half van loads of green waste that went for composting and over 2 tons of other rubbish.
Luke Rice, who along with Barney Evans initiated the event told us:
“We were driving to football practise and we came up with the idea of cleaning up our local area. I work for the council and used my contacts to get the ball rolling.
“We wanted to bring the community together with the common goal of cleaning up the area we live in.”
Indeg Jones of Keep Wales Tidy added:
“It has been great to see so many people turn up and get involved. It really is a great start to Tidy Wales Week”.
