Young bookworm Reuben Kala-Palmer, a pupil at Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Caerfilli, has received a prize from a special visitor after winning an online competition.
‘Cati the Croc’, Caerphilly county borough council’s catering mascot, visited Reuban at his school to present him with book tokens after he scooped the top prize.
The authority’s catering service runs competitions each term on their dedicated website for primary pupils. During the summer term, 6-year-old Reuben answered the question, ‘What is your favourite book and why?’, with his response being “‘Bettle in the Bathroom’ because I love my Mum doing the actions.”
During a recent school assembly, Cati the Croc arrived at the school and presented a surprised Reuben with a certificate and vouchers. The pupils also participated in some of the interactive learning games available on the website.
YGG Caerphilly as the school is also known, pride themselves on the promotion of healthy eating both in and outside of the school. Headteacher, Mr Griffiths has recently introduced a food co-op into the school with the aim of both educating and improving the health of pupils and to join the fight against childhood obesity.
