Denbighshire celebrates a hat-trick at national transport awards

Denbighshire was celebrating with wins in three categories at the National Transport Awards in Cardiff on Friday.

They were:

  • The Vale of Clwyd Bus Improvements, seeing brand new buses on longer-distance and rural routes, new hourly services on weekdays and new evening & Sundays buses.
  • “Zoom” the regional school transport behavioural project that looks at positive and practical ways of improving school transport.
  • Manager of the Year – Denbighshire’s Highways & Infrastructure Manager, Peter Daniels.
  • In addition, the passenger transport e-procurement project was a runner up.

The Vale of Clwyd Bus Improvements win was in collaboration with the Denbighshire Rural Development Plan Partnership, Cadwyn Clwyd and GHA Coaches Ltd. The Zoom project win was on behalf of the six North Wales authorities and thanks to plenty of input from local schools! In both of these categories, Denbighshire was the lead authority.

The awards are organised annually by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport. It aims to recognise achievements and identify those organisations and individuals whose performance has been outstanding.

Cabinet Lead Member for Environment and Sustainable Development, Councillor Sharon Frobisher, praised the hard work of staff in the transport department and for their success in the awards.

“This is fantastic news for Denbighshire and I would like to congratulate all staff involved who have helped make our transport service one of innovation and excellence.”
