Fairwater Workshops, which is managed and owned by Cardiff Council, is continuing to attract new creative industry companies to the area.
Situated on Norbury Road, the workshops form part of the property portfolio offered to small businesses in Cardiff, which are looking for the ideal facility to start and develop their business.
Numerous companies within the creative industry sector have become tenants over the past few months, with services ranging from general recording and editing, through to voice over and jingles.
Cardiff Council’s Business & Investment team manages a portfolio of small business premises across Cardiff, which offer small start up premises for companies to develop the early stages of their business. Some sites are designed to house specific creative industry companies, which encourage firms to network and engage with each other. Premises range in size and have flexible terms.
Companies also benefit from direct contact with Business Development Officers at Cardiff Council, who offer business advice and support.
Councillor Neil McEvoy, Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Economic Development said: “The Fairwater Workshops site gives a unique offer to small businesses within the creative industries sector and is very much sought after. The facility gives those businesses the ideal platform to start and develop, while also creating local employment opportunities. The creative industries are a key sector in Cardiff and I am pleased we have Council facilities encouraging further new enterprise in the city.
Cardiff is the key driver of the creative economy in Wales, with a significant amount of the city’s workforce employed in the sector, working in fields such as film, TV, new media, printing and publishing. It is anticipated that over the coming five to ten years creative industries will continue to grow, particularly as Cardiff is home to the second largest TV production sector outside of London.”
One of Fairwater Workshops’ most recent occupiers is Osian Gwynedd, who rents space for a recording studio. He said: “Fairwater Workshops has provided me with well located business premises and other creative industry companies to create potential relationships with. Small business premises like Fairwater Workshops are difficult to come across in Cardiff and I am pleased I am able to utilise such a facility”
