Students walk wild and windy moors of Brontë book

Classic literature was brought to life for Coleg Gwent students recently as they experienced the wild and windy moors of Yorkshire right off the page of Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights.

The A Level English students from City of Newport Campus visited the Brontë home in historic Haworth and followed the footsteps of literature’s tragic lovers Cathy and Heathcliff with a walk on the Yorkshire moors.

In keeping with the brooding tone of the classic story, the group stayed in a beautiful old apothecary B&B reputed to be the most haunted building in the village.  “The students loved it,” said lecturer Julie Benson. “Learning about the history of the area and experiencing the landscape of the novel in real life helped the students put the story into context and build up a good understanding of the book.”
