Dance Shorts: 2010/2011 – 10 minutes of fresh & exciting dance

An invitation for Wales based dance artists to make applications to Wales’ newest and most exciting dance commissioning initiative.

Following the success of the pilot, Dance Shorts returns this year bigger and bolder and is looking for fresh and exciting 10 minutes of dance. It’s a great opportunity for Wales based dance artists to develop their work in a supportive environment and to showcase their work at key Welsh venues.

Dance Shorts is a partnership between venues and artists, it aims to increase access for audiences to see quality Welsh talent and to provide opportunities for Welsh dance artists to show their work at key venues in Wales. The commissioned works will be presented free in the foyer before the main dance performance at key Welsh venues nationally across Wales, including Riverfront Theatre in Newport, Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff and Taliesin Arts Centre in Swansea. Commissioned works to be a maximum of 10 minutes in length, live performance required.

The commissioning fee is £3,000 plus reasonable travel and accommodation expenses and this year there are three commissions available. To ensure quality and suitability of works to be performed, there will be a mentoring programme as part of the project to give artists feedback about the commissioned works before public presentation. Quality and fit for purpose will be the broad aims of the mentoring programme.

Dance Shorts will be teaming up with Candoco Dance Company for one of the commissions and is keen to hear from disabled artists or artists wishing to work with disabled performers.

Dance Shorts is a made possible with a grant from the Arts Council of Wales.

How to apply :
