Cardiff Council extends a warm welcome to overseas young gardeners Baptiste Marin, Pierre Lherieau, Quentin Noyer and Julien Morin from the French twinned city of Nantes as part of a twin city exchange scheme.
The three week work placement between 4 to 21 May with the Council’s Parks Service has enabled the young gardeners the opportunity to develop their horticultural and language skills and explore the Welsh capital and culture.
During their placement the young gardeners worked throughout the city including the Cardiff Castle Nursery, Bute Park, Roath Park, Cardiff Bay and Parc Cefn Onn. They teamed up with the community rangers, Cardiff parks apprentices Maggie Szczerbnska and Anthony Davies and also spent the day in the landscape design office. They were very impressed by Cardiff parks and gained invaluable experience from this opportunity.
Last year Cardiff Council’s parks apprentices Ben Light and Alex Sibley accompanied by Landscape Officer Mark Lawton took part in the Nantes exchange scheme which proved highly valuable in improving their horticultural skills and assisting them in completing their final year of the apprenticeship scheme, whilst learning more about the twinned city of Nantes.
Cllr. Nigel Howells, Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture said: “We were very pleased to welcome the young gardeners to our city and these partnership arrangements demonstrate Cardiff Council’s commitment to the provision of training and development opportunities.”
