Land in Swansea west is being ear-marked for new business development to help with future job prospects in and around the city.
Swansea Council has found a shortage of suitable sites and identified the Swansea West Business Park as a key location for developments that can provide jobs. The site includes about 240 acres of land in both private and Council ownership.
Council officers are working on a strategy to bring this land into use. In support of this Swansea Council’s Cabinet has agreed that land currently leased to the Greyhound Stadium in Fforestfach together with adjacent agricultural land should be preserved for future development proposals.
This means the land will revert back to the Council when the period of current leases expire but, until then, the stadium can remain open.
Cllr Gareth Sullivan, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic and Strategic Development, said: “There’s a real lack of developable employment land in Swansea and this needs to be addressed.
“And if we’re going to meet our economic ambitions and provide jobs for local residents, Swansea West provides the opportunity to meet this need.
“We need to work with partners to bring sites forward to achieve this aim.”
