Pupils from Ty Sign Primary School have been working hard to do their bit for their local environment, by helping to clear litter and spruce up a derelict patch of land in Ty Sign with some wildlife friendly plants.
The youngsters worked alongside officers from Caerphilly County Borough Council to make the Ty Sign area cleaner and greener, while helping to raise awareness of the quality of the environment along Holly Road and Elm Drive, and encourage further environmental works in the area.
Cabinet member for the environment, Cllr Lyn Ackerman said, “I would like to say a very big thank you to the children of Ty Sign Primary School for helping us to make their local environment an even more pleasant place to live, work and go to school.
By encouraging children from a young age to look after their environment, I strongly believe that we are helping to create a culture of pride and ownership of our streets and the wider community, which can only help in our quest for an even cleaner, greener Caerphilly county borough.”
The feedback from the community has been very positive, and it is hoped that the actions of the local children will help stimulate the interests of residents and local businesses to get involved.
The event formed part of Tidy Wales Week, and is just one of a number of environmental enhancement activities taking place across Caerphilly county borough.
