Cardiff Calling

Cardiff University has completed its first telephone fundraising campaign successfully raising thousands of pounds in new support for the University’s Annual Fund.

Since last November more than 3,000 alumni have been contacted by current Cardiff students, informing them of new developments at the University and asking for their support for the Annual Fund programme.

The first campaign of its kind, the Telethon has successfully encouraged more than 250 individuals to donate money to support the aspirations and ambitions of current and future students.

All donations made through the Telethon will now go even further as a result of the Government’s Matched Funding scheme. The scheme, which was launched at the end of last year to raise awareness of the importance of philanthropic giving to universities, means that for every £2 donated to the University, the Government will provide an additional £1. With the added support of Gift Aid – a government scheme that enables the University to claim tax relief on donations from UK tax payers – a donation of £50 will be almost doubled, totalling £96.15.

Since the Annual Fund was established in 2006, more than two thousand people have supported the University’s fundraising efforts. Gifts to the Annual Fund support students and the learning experience at Cardiff, as well as specific projects such as the new Cochrane Building at the Heath Park Campus, refurbishments within the School of Music and the confidential student counselling service Nightline.
