A special free event promoting healthy living will take place on 2 June as part of the Changing Lifestyles Project, run by MEWN (Minority Ethnic Women’s Network) Cymru in partnership with the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
Held at the Memorial Hall, Barry, between 10am and 2pm the event will offer a host of free activities, stalls and short presentations providing information about physical activities in the Vale as well as managing and avoiding common health issues.
Activities on offer include yoga sessions for children and adults, body mass index (BMI) and blood pressure checks, Henna painting, Indian Head massage, face painting and more; while stalls will offer information from services including Breast Test Wales, Valeways, Age Concern, the council’s Hate Crime Helpline and Diabetes Cymru among many others.
Presentations will come courtesy of Diabetes Cymru, Gwent Association for the Blind and the Vale Council’s leisure services. Cllr Janice Charles, cabinet member for human resources and equalities, and Aliya Mohammed, Changing Lifestyles Project Coordinator, will open and introduce the event.
It’s hoped that the event will be of particular interest to black and ethnic minority (BME) community members living in the Vale, voluntary and public sector organisations (particularly those working in the health field) and healthcare, sports and physical activity providers.
Registration and refreshments will begin at 10am with activities starting at 10.30am. If you’re interested in joining in then please pre-register as there will be limited spaces. Lunch and refreshments will be provided and everyone – men, women and children – are welcome.
