The Gnoll is set to become a hive of activity to celebrate Wales Biodiversity Week.
Busy Bees are being asked to attend the third annual Our Nature in the Gnoll event will be held on Saturday, June 12 from 1pm.
Neath Port Talbot Council, in partnership with The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales, Swansea and District Beekeepers’ Society, South Wales Police, local artists, volunteers and wildlife experts, will be putting on an array of activities, themed around the amazing wildlife that can be found in our county borough.
This year is set to be bigger and better as 2010 has been declared the International Year of Biodiversity by the United Nations.
Neath Port Talbot Council, wildlife organisations and other partners are working continuously to protect and enhance our wildlife and the places they live, but an extra effort is needed this year to make sure that we do all that we can to reverse the decline in our wildlife.
The Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council Ali Thomas said: “Wales Biodiversity Week and the International Year of Biodiversity will provide families and individuals with opportunities to find out more about the different creatures and habitats which help make Neath Port Talbot such a special place.
“The free events will enable people of all ages to learn more about the area in which they live, whilst having fun.”
The busy bees amongst you can visit Her Majesty, the queen bee, the creative can have their faces painted, make bat hats, bio books and butterfly mobiles and budding ecologists can take part in Henson the Hedgehog’s Nature Trail and learn more about bees, bugs and bats. An expert-led bat walk, with bat detectors will take place at dusk.
This fun-filled day of events is funded by the Countryside Council for Wales and is supported by members of the Neath Port Talbot Biodiversity Forum.
