Concerted efforts to improve performance across all Council services will continue, according to the Isle of Anglesey County Council’s Leader.
Councillor Clive McGregor made the pledge in response to the Wales Local Government Data Unit’s fourth annual bulletin published on Thursday (October 1st).
The bulletin looks at performance across a range of services within the 22 local authorities.
Cllr McGregor stressed, “Anglesey has fared well in terms of its overall performance in this report, and I welcome the fact that we’re successfully hitting our targets in several key areas.”
“There are, however, areas where we can improve and I am committed to improving the County Council’s overall performance, which will benefit the people of Anglesey. My Executive is paying particularly close attention to performance management and, working with Council officers, we’re committed to improving services across the board.”
The 2008/09 bulletin shows that Anglesey is responding well to urgent repairs within Council-owned homes; completing adult care plans in good time; substantially reducing risk in cases of adult protection referrals; and keeping school class numbers below the 30 pupil threshold.
Established in 2001, the Local Government Data Unit ~ Wales is a partnership venture jointly funded by the National Assembly for Wales and Local Government in Wales. It provides an independent and apolitical vehicle to improve the collection, availability and use of data for local and central government in Wales.
Richard Palmer, the Data Unit’s Head of Improvement said, “The 2008-09 performance data again shows that, overall, local authority performance in Wales continues to improve across a range of service. We have undertaken an analysis of those performance measures which are comparable between 2007-08 and 2008-09. 64% of these show an improvement in performance at an all-Wales level.”
He continued, “It is also worth noting that the range of performance across Wales has improved in many areas compared to previous years.”
