Commenting on the announcement that building will begin next year on one of the largest offshore windfarms in the world, Shadow Local Government Minister Darren Millar AM said:
“The news that building work on the Gwynt y Môr development will commence next spring is a bitter blow for local people who campaigned against the proposals and found their opposition ignored by the previous UK Government.
“There was overwhelming public opposition both from members of the local communities and elected representatives at all levels, as well as calls for a public inquiry into the proposals.
“I would like to reiterate that this is not about an opposition to wind energy – Welsh Conservatives are committed to increasing the generation and use of renewable energy in Wales.
“However, the failure to take into account the views of local people represents a democratic deficit that is one of the many unwanted legacies of the previous Labour government.
“The voice of local people and their representatives should not be sidelined.”
