Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr Tydfil Integrated Community Equipment Service and Cwm Taf Health Board are urging residents to think before they throw away un-required community equipment.
A vast amount of community equipment is often not returned after it is no longer required, resulting in equipment not being recycled back into the service and becoming a wasted resource..
In partnership with the Council’s Community Housing and Street Care teams, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr Tydfil Integrated Community Equipment Service has been looking at innovative ways to ensure that residents return their unwanted community equipment.
Community equipment is often loaned out to residents as part of a care package or to assist the vulnerable and can consist of commodes, walking aides, bath and shower chairs, feeding aides, sensory aides and lots more.
The amnesty of equipment aims to encourage unwanted equipment to be reused by the service and will allow residents to have an effective point to drop off equipment.
Residents are urged to drop off any unwanted or no longer required community equipment at the following locations –
- Bryn Pica Landfill Site, Llwydcoed (CF44 0BX)
- Cymmer Road, Dinas (CF39 9BL)
- Nantygwyddon Road, Gelli (CF41 7TL)
- North Road, Ferndale (CF43 4RS)
- Treforest Industrial Estate (CF37 5TT)
Councillor Mike Forey, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Services, said: “The Integrated Community Equipment Service provides vital assistance to those in need and we must ensure that all equipment is available for those who need it most and ensure that these vital aids are not thrown away. I would urge residents to ensure that all unwanted equipment is returned as in times when budgets are under pressure it is especially important that all resources are used and not wasted.”
