Animation Launched at National Urdd Eisteddfod

Dyfed Powys Police are launching an animated film highlighting how young people can keep themselves safe online at the National UrddEisteddfod in Aberaeron.

“We wanted to get general safety messages out to young people that while playing games on the internet and using social networking sites is fun they need use the same common sense online as well as off line,” said Nick Ingram, Assistant Chief Constable.

“We worked with Tantrwm to develop something that appeals to young people and gets messages across in a way that interests them. That is where the animation came from. It introduced an element of fun balanced with the seriousness of the messages.

“Keeping safe online is about making sure you don’t put yourself in the position where are could be taken advantage of – whether by posting photographs that you wouldn’t want your grandmother to see, or by keeping your identity safe. It is about not doing things online that you wouldn’t dream of doing in the real world.

“We don’t want to spoil people’s fun, just make sure they are safe and that they know where to go to for help and advice, should they need it.”
