Pupils at Johnston CP School have kicked off this year’s popular ‘Walk to School’ initiative in Pembrokeshire.
More than 100 pupils walked from KO Carpets to the school, led by a pupil dressed in a Welsh dragon costume.
Over the next half-term, many schools across the County are planning a Walk to School day.
Primary schools in Fishguard, Letterston, Narberth, Haverfordwest, Pembroke, Neyland and more will be taking part.
Walking or cycling to school can:
- Develop young people’s road awareness skills
- Reduce car dependency by school pupils
- Reduce the number of pedestrian casualty road accidents
- Reduce the motor traffic congestion outside schools
- Improve the health of children and parents who tend to live a sedentary lifestyle
- Improve the environment of the school and surrounding area
It is hoped that through the success of cycle and walking initiatives, more children will participate on a daily basis and not rely on a car!
