Montgomeryshire AM Mick Bates has expressed his disappointment following the news that the award-winning Llanfyllin Workhouse festival has been cancelled this year due to money worries and expresses his support for the festival which he hopes can continue in the future.
Commenting, Assembly Member Mr Bates states:
“I am very sad to learn that the award-winning Llanfyllin Workhouse festival has been cancelled this year, which will be a great disappointment and a loss to the local area which benefits greatly from the annual event. I have attended the festival every year since 2003 and I share many peoples’ sadness over the news.
“Llanfyllin festival is not only a celebration of music, but of local produce and renewable energy and in 2008 it received the Greener Festival Award for being eco-friendly. Profits from the festival are funnelled back into supporting Llanfyllin workhouse which is a fantastic community facility.
“The cancellation of the festival is no reflection on the extremely hard working volunteers and trustees who have dedicated such time and energy and organised a fantastic event every year. I hope it will be possible to identify new sources of funding to support the future of the festival which is such a wonderful annual event in the calendar.”
