World Cinema at Theatr Mwldan

A season of world cinema continues at Theatr Mwldan this week with two very special films from opposite ends of the globe.

Australian film Samson & Delilah (15) is a powerfully tragic love story about two Aboriginal teenagers forced to run away from home.  Samson and Delilah’s world is small – an isolated community in the Central Australian desert. When tragedy strikes they turn their backs on home and embark on a journey of survival. Lost, unwanted and alone they discover that life isn’t always fair, but love never judges.  Rich in texture and atmosphere, this is one of the bravest Australian films you will ever see, taking every cliché about Australian film and managing to turn them into something utterly brilliant.  Winner of the Camera d’Or – Best First Feature – Cannes Film Festival 2009, Samson & Delilah will leave hearts bruised but aching with joy.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
(18) is an acutely atmospheric and suspenseful Swedish thriller, inspired by the trilogy of internationally bestselling novels.    When computer hacker Lisbeth Salander teams up with journalist Mikael Blomkvist to investigate the 40 year-old disappearance of a favorite niece, together they find themselves on the trails of a serial killer. Hailed as the most striking female lead since Jodie Foster’s Clarice Starling, Noomi Rapace’s performance as Lisbeth is a compelling vision of gothic torment.  This is a satisfying mix of mystery, detection, psychosis, weird romance and social criticism.
