The 35-year-old Chinese man, who was assaulted at the Oriental Express take away restaurant on Abergele Road in Colwyn Bay, remains in hospital where his condition is described as stable.
The incident is believed to have happened between 1.45pm and 3.10pm yesterday, Wednesday 9th June, within the premises, which were not open for business at the time.
Detective Chief Inspector Steve Williams said: “There is nothing to indicate that the incident was racially motivated, but we are keeping an open mind in relation to the assault.”
Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have seen or heard a disturbance at the location, to come forward.
A 46-year -old man from the Colwyn Bay area remains in custody in St Asaph.
