Council tenants in Brecknockshire won prizes thanks to their green fingered skills in this year’s garden competition.
Organised by Powys County Council, the 2009 Brecknockshire Garden Competition was open to all council tenants in the area.
Judging took place in July and judges were amazed at the standard of gardens this year, especially with the wet weather the country has experienced this summer.
Cllr Paul Ashton , Vice-Chairman of Brecknockshire and Cllr Krishn Pathak, local member for Tawe Uchaf, presented cups, plaques, certificates and cheques to the winners at a presentation evening held at Bishops Meadow, Brecon on Thursday September 10.
Mr and Mrs G Newman of Glasfryn Terrace, Bwlch won the Brecknockshire Silver Cup for the Best Kept Garden and the Gwanwyn Evans Challenge Cup for the Best Kept Senior Citizens Garden.
The Brecknockshire Shield for the Best Kept Housing Estate in Brecknockshire was won by St. John’s Close in Tretower while Pendre in Builth Wells was awarded the Cllr Mrs B L Greet Challenge Cup for the Best Kept Senior Citizens Estate in Brecknockshire.
Cllr Graham Brown, Board Member for Housing, said: “This year’s competition was again a great success and I would like to thank all those who participated and made it an extremely difficult competition to judge.”
