Nominate your youth heroes in Rhondda Cynon Taff

A special awards ceremony will be held next month to celebrate the achievements of young people across Rhondda Cynon Taf.

To coincide with Youth Work Week Wales, the Young People’s Achievement Awards will be hosted by and for young people at Coleg Morgannwg, Llwynypia, Rhondda, from 7pm on November 4, 2009.

The awards are being run by Rhondda Cynon Taf’s newly amalgamated Services to Young People, which incorporates the Youth Service, E3+ and Community Schools.

Cllr Eudine Hanagan, Rhondda Cynon Taf Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning, who is judging the Youth Ambassador Award category, said: “We would like to reward the effort and achievements of young people across Rhondda Cynon Taf.

“We know how inspirational young people can be and we want you to tell us which individuals and projects deserve recognition for their successes and innovation. Judges will be looking for new ideas and ways of working, commitment and dedication.”

Award categories are:

  • Youth Ambassador:
  • A young person who has represented the voice of young people at a local, community or county level.
  • Project Award:
  • Clubs and associations that have completed a project between September 2008 and September 2009.
  • Senior Members Award:
  • A young person who has been involved in a Youth/E3/Vol Org project as a senior member and has made a significant contribution to the project.
  • Personal Achievement Award:
  • A young person who has overcome difficulties and adversity to take part in activities and engage with workers and build relationships with some positive results.
  • Outstanding Sporting Achievement:
  • A young person who has been involved in playing any sports or has been involved in a sports leadership capacity – coaching or teaching other young people.
  • Arts and the Creative Industries Award:
  • A young person who has shown a flair for creativity in performance arts, visual arts, urban arts – breakdancing, streetdance, graffiti, beat box, film making and production, digital arts, creative working or any other medium involving the arts.
  • Environment/Development Award:
  • Youth exchanges, pen friend clubs, links with other countries, holding or organising International events, participating in national events, environmental or community projects.
  • Service to the Community:
  • Young people who have been involved in fundraising, youth leadership, consultation events, youth fora, youth committees; who are active in the community, help others, take part in sponsored events or charity work; young carers, buddy schemes and volunteering.

All candidates must be nominated by a young person between the ages 11-25. Entry to the Youth Awards is free, however each club/organisation may only enter once for each category. The closing date for nominations is Friday, October 16, 2009.
