An Anglesey school garden is now cleaner and greener, thanks to the hard work of local police, pupils and partners.
The recent project, which was aimed at transforming part of Ysgol Dwyran’s field into a school garden, was a joint initiative between Keep Wales Tidy and North Wales Police.
PCSO Arwel Hughes from the local Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “The aim of this project was to transform a piece of land which was seen as a waste, into a garden that the whole school could enjoy.
“This was also an opportunity to teach some of the youngsters about the importance of the environment whilst they learnt new skills.”
He added: “Activities such as this provide the youngsters with an opportunity to work with us to make a practical difference to an area they care about. It also gives us the opportunity to further foster a good relationship with the youngsters, which is of future benefit to all.
“The area has been totally transformed, and I hope they all enjoyed seeing the result of their hard work and dedication.”
The piece of land was transformed with the help of the pupils, Headmaster Mr Huw Thomas, and Mrs Anwen Jones, Assistant Deputy, the local Neighbourhood Policing Team – PC Ron Owen, and PCSO Arwel Hughes, and Gareth Owen from Keep Wales Tidy. The area was cleared of grass and soil and shrubs and flowers were planted to create a school garden.
Gareth Owen from Keep Wales Tidy said: “This is a great way of bringing people together to help improve the environment. The pupils have set an excellent example to their community and I hope there will be more opportunities to work with them on future projects.
“It’s wonderful to see youngsters getting really stuck into something they care about. We are extremely grateful for their support and the support of the police.”
Ysgol Dwyran Headmaster, Mr Huw Thomas, said: “As a school we very much appreciate the service provided to us by the police. The local officers regularly visit the school – which is of great benefit to the staff and pupils.
“The officers also regularly take part in many of the school activities which is great for the children, who have established an excellent relationship with them. They are an important part of our community and we very much hope this partnership continues in the future.”
